Job Description
Interim SHE Manager
3-Month Contract Inside IR35 £400-£500 per day, negotiable (PAYE via Umbrella)

We are supporting a leading UK manufacturing organisation in the search for an experienced Interim SHE Manager to provide immediate leadership at one of its largest operational sites.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior Health, Safety & Environmental professional who enjoys being visible on site, leading from the front and driving a positive safety culture within a fast-paced, high-risk manufacturing environment.
The contract will initially run to bridge the gap while a permanent appointment is made (initially 3-months).

Contract Details
  • Contract: Initial 3 months.
  • Location: East Suffolk. Site-based with some flexibility where appropriate.
  • IR35: Inside IR35.
  • Rate: £400-£500 per day (PAYE via Umbrella), negotiable depending on experience.
  • Start: Immediate.

The Role
Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will provide operational SHE leadership across a large manufacturing facility with an established safety culture and central SHE support.
Rather than firefighting compliance issues, the focus is on continuing to develop behaviours, engagement and accountability across the site while supporting ongoing improvement projects.
You will also mentor and coach an existing SHE Coordinator, helping to develop their leadership capability and influencing skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide visible, hands-on SHE leadership across the site.
  • Coach, mentor and develop the on-site SHE Coordinator.
  • Support managers in embedding a proactive safety culture.
  • Build strong relationships with both operational teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Ensure compliance with UK legislation and company standards.
  • Support ongoing projects relating to risk management, behavioural safety and operational improvements.
  • Promote practical, proportionate health and safety solutions that support operational performance.

About the Site
  • Large manufacturing facility with approximately 800+ employees.
  • High-risk, fast-paced operational environment.
  • Established safety systems with a mature compliance culture.
  • Focus on evolving behavioural safety and increasing workforce ownership.
  • Significant operational improvement and capital projects underway.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who is:
  • A visible and approachable leader.
  • Practical, proactive and solutions-focused.
  • Comfortable operating at both shop-floor and senior leadership level.
  • Passionate about engaging people rather than policing safety.
  • An experienced coach who enjoys developing others.
  • Confident influencing behavioural and cultural change.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Candidates with a NEBOSH Certificate and significant relevant operational experience will also be considered.
  • Strong experience within manufacturing or another high-risk operational environment.
  • Experience leading SHE within a large single site or multi-site operation.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Desirable:
  • Experience with environmental management.
  • Knowledge of hazards such as DSEAR, ATEX, pressure systems, ammonia or similar high-risk processes.
  • Experience working to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.

This is an opportunity to make an immediate impact within a well-established manufacturing operation that is committed to continually improving its health, safety and environmental performance.
