The Head of Policy and Public Affairs leads the RTPI's policy development and public affairs activity across the UK and internationally. The role is responsible for identifying, developing and championing evidence-based public policy that advances the long term public interest through effective planning.
Working across the RTPI, you will draw upon member expertise, research, professional practice and international learning to develop compelling policy positions and influence decision makers at local, regional, national and international levels.
As a member of the Institute's senior management community you will build and lead a high performing team, foster collaboration across the organisation and strengthen the RTPI's reputation as the authoritative voice on planning policy.
You will also advise the Presidential Team, Trustees, Chief Executive, and Senior Executive team on emerging policy issues, spotting opportunities, and risks for the RTPI and our members.
With experience of leading, managing and developing high-performing teams, you will also have an understanding of public policy development, government decision making and influencing strategies. An understanding of planning and related public policy and processes is essential and as is experience of effectively shaping public policy and influencing decision makers within complex political environments. You will have experience of developing evidence-based policy positions that have influenced public debate, government policy, and / or legislative outcomes. Chartered membership of the RTPI is desirable but not essential.
