Interim Fleet & Workshop Operations Manager

Location: Cumberland (Depot portfolio across Brampton, Workington, Whitehaven)

Pay Rate:£400.00 per day

Contract Length: 6 Months (Initial)

Work Pattern: Hybrid (3 Days Depot-Based / 2 Days WFH)

The Role

Are you an expert in heavy vehicle compliance and municipal workshop operations?

We are urgently seeking an experienced, high-caliber Interim Fleet & Workshop Manager to step into a critical 6-month backfill role in Cumberland. Managing a multi-site depot portfolio, you will act as the operational anchor-supporting lead mechanics on the ground, optimizing workshop throughput, and safeguarding strict regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Workshop Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations across 5 operational depots, ensuring the maintenance schedules of specialist vehicles (refuse collection, highways maintenance, winter gritters, and grounds equipment) are strictly adhered to.

  • Compliance Management: Ensure absolute adherence to O-Licence standards, MOT regulations, and the statutory requirements of the Office of the Traffic Commissioner.

  • Team Support: Spend 3 days a week traveling between sites (Brampton to Whitehaven) to assess operational capabilities, support senior mechanics, and champion a rigorous Health & Safety culture.

  • Record Integrity: Audit and streamline fleet maintenance record management to ensure best practices are met ahead of any regulatory inspections.

The Ideal Candidate:
  • Proven track record managing complex, heavy-vehicle workshops (ideally within local authority, waste management, or logistics sectors).

  • Comprehensive, working knowledge of the Office of the Traffic Commissioner regulations and O-Licence compliance.

  • Exceptional leadership skills with a "boots-on-the-ground" approach to supporting engineering and mechanical teams.

  • Highly organized, IT-literate, and capable of working autonomously across multiple sites.

  • Full UK Driving License is mandatory.
