Job Description
Instrument and Control Lead Engineer (Technical Authority) Location: Onshore Aberdeen, opportunity for hybrid working

Join us as Instrument and Control Lead (Technical Authority), where you'll ensure the integrity and performance of Instrumentation, Control, Metering and Telecommunications systems across our operated assets.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you'll act as the discipline authority - providing expert guidance, independent judgement on control systems, safety-critical instrumentation and process automation. You'll lead a team of engineers, ensuring delivery of business priorities and strong discipline capability.

Communication will be key as you translate complex control and safety system requirements into clear direction, influencing stakeholders across Engineering, Operations and Projects.

Through Learning, you'll drive continuous improvement in areas such as functional safety, digitalisation and data-driven decision making, embedding lessons learned from audits, incidents and risk reviews.

You'll create an environment where engineers are Empowered and take Accountability, applying their expertise while ensuring robust oversight of risk-based decisions, including MOCs, overrides and system impairments.

Above all, you'll lead with Respect, fostering collaboration across disciplines and engaging with regulators and industry bodies to promote best practice in control and safety systems.

What we are looking for in potential candidates

We're seeking an experienced I&C leader with strong technical authority and the ability to influence, lead and deliver across a complex organisation.

Leadership & Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the I&C, Metering and Telecoms discipline
  • Act as Technical Authority for control systems and functional safety
  • Provide assurance on risk-based decisions (e.g. ORAs, MOCs, system overrides)
  • Maintain discipline standards, performance standards and compliance
  • Support operations and projects with specialist control systems expertise
Experience & Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (or equivalent), Chartered preferred
  • Strong experience in control systems and functional safety in UKCS oil & gas
  • Knowledge of relevant safety systems, regulations and industry standards
  • Proven ability to lead teams and influence technical decision-making
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
