The OpportunityEirGrid operates state of the art, business critical IT systems 24/7 to ensure the secure and reliable operation of the electricity grid. As we transition to a low carbon energy future, this role offers an opportunity to make a real impact as part of our centralised Architecture function.
The role sits within the Architecture team, which is responsible for IT strategy, architecture, and solution design; setting best practice standards, policies, and methodologies; and incubating new and emerging technologies. The successful candidate will guide IT projects toward optimal technical solutions, ensuring that infrastructure and platform solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with EirGrid's IT strategy. This role will focus primarily on on premises infrastructure and hybrid integration, while contributing to cloud adoption initiatives where required.
Key Responsibilities- Support the development of target architectures for on premises and hybrid environments, ensuring interoperability with cloud services where appropriate.
- Assist in designing and documenting infrastructure solutions for critical systems, including compute, storage, networking, and security platforms.
- Evaluate and recommend technical solutions and platform options for enterprise infrastructure projects.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including business units, security, and operations teams, to ensure solutions align with EirGrid's IT strategy, design principles, and compliance requirements.
- Contribute to roadmap development for infrastructure platforms, ensuring lifecycle management and alignment with business needs.
- Provide subject matter expertise on data centre technologies, virtualization, and platform services.
- Support the adoption of automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices for on premises environments.
- Assist in the integration of monitoring, resilience, and disaster recovery capabilities into infrastructure designs.
- Proven experience in designing and delivering enterprise grade infrastructure solutions in on premises or hybrid environments.
- Strong knowledge of datacentre technologies, including storage, compute, and networking.
- Experience working with Cloud (Azure preferred) and hybrid architecture patterns.
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware, Azure Local, HyperV) and Windows/Linux server environments.
- Design experience with automation tools and CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non technical stakeholders.
