Information Technology Support Engineer

IT SUPPORT ENGINEER - BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION

We are seeking a skilled and motivated IT Support Engineer with a strong focus on Linux-based systems to join a growing IT team. In this role, you will serve as a key technical resource responsible for maintaining and supporting our Linux infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability across all systems.

You will play a critical part in both day-to-day operations and long-term improvement initiatives. Your responsibilities will include diagnosing and resolving issues at both the system and user level, managing Linux servers, implementing updates, and participating in automation and infrastructure projects.

You'll work closely with cross-functional teams, including DevOps, security, development, and network engineering, to ensure our IT environment runs smoothly and securely.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide Level 1-3 support for Linux-based systems (primarily Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL, etc.)
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues in physical and virtual environments
• Manage user access, permissions, and authentication (e.g., LDAP, SSH, Sudo policies)
• Monitor system performance and health; perform regular updates, patches, and backups
• Assist in deployment, configuration, and maintenance of servers and critical applications
• Document processes, procedures, and configurations in knowledge bases and runbooks
• Support automation tasks using Bash, Python, or other scripting languages
• Maintain and support IT infrastructure tools such as monitoring, logging, and backup solutions
• Collaborate with DevOps and Security teams to improve system reliability and compliance
• Support other operating systems (e.g., Windows or MacOS) as needed in a mixed environment

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience (3+ years) in a technical support or system administration role with a focus on Linux systems
• Strong understanding of Linux OS internals, package management, and system troubleshooting
• Experience with command-line tools and shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.)
• Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls)
• Knowledge of virtualization and cloud platforms (e.g., VMware, KVM, AWS, Azure)
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) is a plus
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
