Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has opened for a Band 7 Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the internationally renowned St Mark's Hospital, part of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust and based at Central Middlesex Hospital.

As a key member of our specialist IBD service, you'll work alongside an expert multidisciplinary team including IBD consultants, surgeons, clinical fellows, dietitians, pharmacists, and psychological support services. Together, we deliver world class care across St Mark's, Northwick Park, Central Middlesex and Ealing hospitals.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide advanced clinical assessment, advice and support to people living with IBD.
  • Lead and contribute to clinical audits to maintain excellence in evidence based practice.
  • Offer specialist guidance to colleagues across the Trust and nationally.
  • Support seamless patient care across inpatient, outpatient and community settings.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification Education and Qualifications
  • RGN
  • Registered with NMC
  • BSC in IBD/GI Nursing
  • Evidence of further education pertaining to speciality
  • Completed or working on Physical assessment & Non medical prescriber Modules
  • MSc in Advanced Practice or working towards
  • IBD Module Level 6 or 7
  • Completed or working on Physical assessment & Non medical prescriber Modules
  • Evidence of presenting on IBD at local or National level
  • Active member of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) GI forum or IBD Network
Knowledge and experience
  • 2-3 years post registration experience in GI/surgical/colorectal nursing
  • Experience of managing own workload and competent in prioritising workload
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues related to GI/surgical nursing
  • Advanced knowledge of the GI tract anatomy, physiology and disease processes
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Research course
  • Published literature
  • Counselling skills/experience
