Individual Giving Officer (Retention and Mid-Value) BirdLife International

An opportunity for an ambitious fundraiser to advance their career in individual giving by devising digital campaigns for a global audience.

  • Location: Remote, UK, with travel to the David Attenborough Building in Cambridge
Who we are

Nature is in crisis. People are destroying and consuming the natural world at a devastating rate, threatening the ecosystems on which all life depends. Birds are our early warning system, revealing our planet's health and helping us understand the urgent action needed to protect it.

BirdLife International is the only global Partnership dedicated to conserving birds and all life on our planet. Bringing together 125 national organisations across six continents, we unite local expertise and global influence to protect birds, biodiversity and the natural systems that sustain life.

Through our unique local-to-global approach, we work at the intersection of science, policy and community action to tackle the global nature and climate crises.

Using world-leading bird science, we collect and analyse data across continents, landscapes and seascapes to identify the most effective, innovative conservation solutions. Our work conserves species, safeguards critical habitats and empowers communities to create lasting change for nature and people.

At the heart of BirdLife is a powerful global movement. More than two million birders, scientists and local volunteers help track, study and protect birdlife worldwide, generating the knowledge and action needed to drive conservation impact at scale. Together, we are working to create a world where birds and all life can thrive.

About the role

BirdLife International has created the Individual Giving Officer role to focus on developing a supporter retention programme and to lead the organisation's mid-value income programme (individuals giving £1,000-£10,000 annually). Working closely with the Individual Giving and Supporter Care Manager, the Individual Giving Officer will be both creative and analytical, assessing retention and mid-value products to maximise portfolio performance. This role suits someone with experience in digital individual giving and a desire to develop their career in this area. It is also an opportunity to work with a truly global audience, with BirdLife supporters in many countries worldwide.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the ongoing development and lead the delivery of BirdLife's supporter retention programme across cash giving, regular giving, and other individual giving channels, maximising the long-term value of the supporter base.
  • Design and implement supporter journeys and stewardship communications that deepen engagement and reduce attrition.
  • Identify and deliver opportunities to grow regular giving, including converting cash givers into regular committed supporters.

Mid-Value fundraising, stewardship and growth

  • Lead BirdLife's mid-level programme, including acquiring, cultivating, upgrading, and retaining donors giving in the £1,000-£10,000 range.
  • Support the ongoing development of BirdLife's mid-value giving programme, working with the Individual Giving and Supporter Care Manager.
  • Manage a portfolio of mid-value donors, delivering personalised stewardship and cultivation activity to grow their support over time.

Data, Reporting and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate donor and campaign records in Raiser's Edge, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and the Fundraising Regulator.
  • Track, analyse, and report on retention and mid-value programme performance, using data to inform planning and decision-making.
Who we are looking for
  • Proven experience in individual giving, donor retention, or mid-value fundraising.
  • Experience working on multi-channel campaigns, such as direct mail, email, digital, and telephone.
  • Experience analysing campaign and donor data to inform decisions and drive improvement.
  • Experience managing a donor portfolio and delivering cultivation or stewardship plans.
  • Willingness to learn, or a good understanding, of climate, biodiversity, civil society, and nature conservation issues.
  • Experience using MailChimp and/or other marketing platforms to manage donor and campaign records
