Job Description

We're looking for a driven and curious journalist to join The Drum as a Creative Reporter on a 12-month contract, covering maternity leave. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a high-profile role and gain real exposure at the heart of the global creative industry.

As a Creative Reporter, you'll lead our day-to-day editorial coverage of the creative sector, breaking exclusive stories, setting the agenda within your beat, and delivering sharp, insightful analysis on the trends shaping the industry. You'll be the voice of The Drum in this space, building strong relationships with key players while maintaining our reputation for quality, accuracy and influence.

We're looking for someone who can uncover what's really happening in the industry, tell compelling stories, and bring fresh perspectives that stand out from the crowd. You'll regularly interview leading figures, write our daily Ad of the Day feature, contribute to newsletters, and collaborate closely with our social and distribution teams to amplify your work.

This role is ideal for a reporter with a strong track record in news and analysis, excellent writing skills, and the confidence to represent The Drum across platforms, from articles and newsletters to panels, podcasts and on-camera appearances.

The position is open to candidates based in Glasgow, London, or Miami (US), where we have staff presence, offering a unique chance to grow your profile, expand your network, and make a real impact in a fast-moving, creative newsroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively finding andwritingexclusive stories on theCreative sector
  • Write The Drum's daily Ad of the Day feature
  • Regular interviews with leading figures in the creative industries
  • Producingtimelyand considered analysis on topical trends and developments
  • Commissioning, editing, and providing feedback on contributed content whererequired
  • Writing and editing a weeklyemail and LinkedIn newsletter
  • Working with our social media executive and distribution team to promote your stories on The Drum's key channels
  • Frequently calling andmeetingkey contacts to uncoverwhat'sreally happening in the industry
  • Supporting colleagues from other teams with your specialistexpertise, growing your presence within TheDrumand contributing to wider company efforts
  • Continuously honing your network to build your reputation as the go-to industry journalist
  • Appearing on camera,panelsand podcasts for The Drumto shareyour knowledge and bring attention to your reporting.
  • Track recordof writing impactful news and analysis
  • Able to unearth strong stories andidentifytimelytrends
  • Can write engaging, clean copy to a high standard and to deadline
  • Can communicate confidently inside and outside the business
  • Finds fresh ways of digging into the industry's biggest issues and standing out from rival coverage
  • Understanding of social media platforms, using them to find contacts, distribute content andenhance reputation
