Job Description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading infrastructure and utilities contractor on the appointment of a HSEQ Manager.

The role offers a strong mix of people leadership and hands on operational HSEQ management, with responsibility for compliance, auditing, incident investigation, performance reporting and continuous improvement, across major civil engineering and infrastructure operations.

In your new role:
  • Lead, support and develop a small team of HSEQ Advisors and Graduates across civil engineering operations
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality legislation, contractual requirements and company standards
  • Manage operational compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 management systems
  • Analyse site audit and inspection findings, producing weekly and monthly reports with recommendations for improvement
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses and identified hazards, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions
  • Ensure regular HSEQ inspections and internal audits are completed, with actions monitored through to effective close out
  • Monitor safe systems of work across projects and identify opportunities to strengthen operational controls
  • Work with training teams to identify HSEQ competency requirements and support the delivery of relevant training
  • Monitor HSEQ KPIs, field quality checks and wider performance indicators, driving improvements where required
  • Coach and develop direct reports through regular performance reviews, objectives and ongoing support
  • Provide regular HSEQ briefings and maintain a visible presence across operational sites
  • Work closely with operational management, clients and other stakeholders to ensure effective contract delivery
  • Maintain accurate project and site HSEQ records and ensure documentation remains compliant and audit ready
What you'll need to succeed:
  • Significant HSEQ experience within civil engineering, utilities, telecommunications or a similar infrastructure environment
  • Previous experience operating at HSEQ Manager, Senior HSEQ Advisor or equivalent level
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent recognised Health & Safety qualification
  • Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality legislation
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections and accident/incident investigations
  • Proven ability to analyse HSEQ performance and implement effective corrective actions
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop and influence others
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills with the ability to engage effectively with operational and senior stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Willingness to travel nationwide as required
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
  • Previous experience managing or developing a team of HSEQ professionals
  • Strong civil engineering or utilities project experience
  • Experience working with ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 management systems
  • Experience managing HSEQ performance against client or contractual KPIs
  • Internal auditing experience or relevant auditor qualification
  • Valid CSCS Card
