The introduction of the Renters' Rights Act has opened up a fantastic opportunity for the Private Rented Sector Team here at Derby City Council to expand and welcome new staff.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intelligence Officer to support the delivery and enforcement of housing legislation within our organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong analytical skills and knowledge of housing compliance to play a key role in protecting residents and supporting safer communities.

The Intelligence Officer role will focus on enforcement against non compliant landlords and a multi disciplinary approach to targeting rogue landlords and persistent offenders. This will involve taking the lead role in civil penalty and prosecution cases.

Responsibilities

Gathering, recording, storing and analysing data and information (intelligence) related to the ownership, management, control and use of privately rented dwellings.

Act as a point of contact for people who wish to provide the Housing Standards Team with intelligence about specific dwellings, landlords, organisations, businesses and/or individuals.

Develop and maintain close working relations with other services and organisations, and proactively work with them to facilitate the flow of information, encourage co operation, improve housing conditions and tackle criminal, rogue and irresponsible landlords.

Take the lead role in civil penalty and prosecution cases.

About You
  • Educated to A level or equivalent
  • Practical experience of gathering intelligence
  • Good verbal communication/interpersonal skills to liaise and advise at all levels with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent IT skills and use of Word, Excel and other management software
  • Ability to keep accurate records
  • Ability to manage and prioritise a large workload effectively
  • Ability to visit dwellings and other sites across the city
