Reporting to: Curriculum Team Leader

Salary: National Minimum Wage for your age

Contract: NSG Business Support, Hourly Paid

Basis: Hourly Paid

Pension: NEST Pension

Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD

The Role

We're looking for a proactive and reliable Junior Workshop Technician to support teaching staff by preparing materials and organising workshop spaces ahead of lessons. In this hands on role, you'll assist during practical sessions, helping to ensure lessons run smoothly while supporting both staff and students to stay engaged. You'll also guide students through practical tasks, ensuring safe and effective use of equipment under supervision, making a positive contribution to the overall learning experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in setting up workshops in advance of classes by organising tools, equipment, and materials as directed by teaching staff.
  • Support staff with risk assessments, learning how to identify potential hazards and contribute to safety protocols.
  • Help ensure that equipment and machinery are in a safe working condition by conducting basic checks and reporting any defects to staff or course team leaders.
  • Participate in basic maintenance routines under the guidance of experienced staff, following Health & Safety procedures.
  • Conduct weekly checks of workshop rooms and storage areas, ensuring they remain clean, orderly, and safe.
  • Provide support to workshop based lessons as needed, including helping with student tasks and ensuring smooth operation of practical sessions.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Hold a minimum Level 3 technical qualification (BTEC, City & Guilds) in an electrical related field.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Show a willingness to undertake any mandatory training relevant to the role.
  • Basic knowledge of rules and regulations within the construction industry.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • IT skills relevant to the requirements of the role.
  • Strong communication skills.

Targeted Retention Scheme
