Job Description

What we are looking for:

  • Permanent and contract opportunities available
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential) - WITH 6 POINTS OR LESS. Driver checks will be completed
  • Immediate start dates available
  • Work rota - varying shifts, overtime and weekend working available
  • All company equipment and PPE provided
  • Proven experience driving and operating HGVs within highways maintenance or related sectors
  • Experience transporting materials, plant and crew safely to and from sites
  • Knowledge of streetworks, carriageway maintenance activities and typical site operations
  • Ability to work on live carriageway with an understanding of site safety and traffic management

Licence/Certifications required:

  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential) - WITH 6 POINTS OR LESS. Driver checks will be completed
  • Valid HGV licence (Category C) and CPC qualification where applicable
  • CSCS Green card minimum
  • Relevant banksman/slinger or banksman & slinger accreditation - desirable
  • Streetworks operative or supervisor certification - desirable
  • Traffic management or banksman accreditation - desirable

  • North West (occasional travel)

Multiple vacancies are available for Highways Maintenance Operatives (HGV Driver) to join our mobile teams operating across Lancashire and the North West. This is a field-based role requiring travel between sites, safe operation of vehicles and regular liaison with supervisors and clients.

Location: Mobile worker - on the road (based in Lancashire)

Key responsibilities:

  • Drive and operate HGVs to deliver materials, plant and crew to highway maintenance sites safely and on time
  • Assist with loading, unloading and securing of materials and equipment, following manual handling best practice
  • Support site teams with setting up welfare and traffic management where required, acting as banksman when accredited
  • Carry out vehicle checks, daily vehicle defect reporting and basic on-site housekeeping of plant and equipment
  • Assist with minor maintenance tasks, hand-finishing repairs or labouring duties as required by the site team
  • Complete accurate site paperwork, vehicle logs and timesheets using company systems
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, method statements and quality procedures at all times
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients and colleagues to support programme delivery

Person specification:

  • Proven experience as an HGV driver within highways, civils or construction environments
  • Practical understanding of highway maintenance activities, traffic management and site safety
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work independently across multiple sites
  • Good communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude
  • Competent with mobile data capture and basic vehicle paperwork
  • High focus on health & safety and adherence to site procedures
  • Flexible to work varying shifts, weekends and overtime where required
