Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is inviting applications for a 0.8 WTE Band 7 - 8A preceptorship Clinical Psychologist/Applied Psychologist to join the Acute Care pathway in North & Mid Hants. The closing date is 28 September 2025.
The acute service comprises female and male acute wards, a 6 bed Ministry of Defence ward, 1 male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and 2 Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment teams for Winchester and Basingstoke. You will provide a qualified highly specialist clinical psychology service to clients of the Acute Care pathway in North & Mid Hants. You will join a team of dynamic, supportive and passionate qualified & pre-qualification clinicians, committed to providing trauma informed care. You will provide specialist psychological assessment & therapy individually, through group programmes, and provide advice, reflective practice, consultation & training to staff across the pathway. The service adopts the Comprehend, Cope & Connect (CCC) model in providing psychological therapies within acute care, alongside other evidence-based models, and strives to continuously evaluate practice to support learning and development. You will work closely with the leadership team within the Acute care pathway and will join a psychologically minded multidisciplinary team creating a culture to support the recovery of adults with severe & acute mental health difficulties.
Main duties of the jobAs a member of the multi-professional team, you will work as an autonomous, independent practitioner responsible for your own work and interventions and for the interpretation of agreed guidelines and policies in providing a highly specialist Psychological service to individuals referred to 16 bedded female acute ward. This may include working with families/carers or other identified persons where appropriate. Individuals will primarily present with complex psychological problems that would benefit from the services of acute and crisis care pathways. They will undertake complex assessments, offer consultancy and provide expert advice to acute and crisis colleagues, the wider clinical multi-professional team, other agencies and non-professional carers and provide specialist treatment for complex cases. This will require you to plan and prioritise your own clinical workload. The post holder will provide specialist supervision for trainee psychologists and qualified and prequalification psychological therapy staff and provide psychological guidance and supervision for multi-professional clinical colleagues. They will engage in research and development, cultivate and encourage a research ethos within the wider clinical team and utilise research skills to contribute to policy or service development as necessary. You will place an emphasis on co-production and demonstrate an attitude which respects and values clients and their carers and the core values of the trust.

Person Specification Qualifications- Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- Formal training in supervision of other psychologists or equivalent experience
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist
