Hours per week: 35 hours per week (Full Time)

We are seeking to recruit a Higher Scientific Officer (HSO) to support laboratory management and oversee operations of the IPU labs, including Leica Bond 3 Automated Slide Stainers, Akoya PhenoImager HT, and Ventana Discovery Ultra. The role offers the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team comprising clinical, scientific, and computational staff, all dedicated to providing advanced pathology solutions for clinical research. This is an exciting opportunity in a newly established group at the forefront of clinical and academic research at the ICR & RMH.

Under the guidance of Dr Thomas Lund, the successful candidate will contribute to laboratory management, SOP development, reagent coordination, quality control, and assurance of scientific data. Additionally, the HSO will support histopathology aspects of various research projects in our advanced translational research laboratory, utilizing complex tissue hybridization technologies such as IHC, RNA-ISH, and mIF. The post involves working alongside Biomedical Scientists, Research Scientists/HSOs, and a Senior Scientific Officer. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Staining pathology slides manually and automatically;
  2. Scanning stained pathology slides;
  3. Maintaining high standards of QA/QC for image quality.

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A PhD in Biological Sciences, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Pathology, or a related field;
  • Knowledge of cancer immunology, therapies, and tumor microenvironment (desirable);
  • Strong laboratory skills and experience in collaborative environments;
  • Experience with tissue handling, processing, histological techniques, IHC, mIF, ISH, microscopy, and digital imaging;
  • Experience in developing and maintaining SOPs for these techniques;
  • Experience in staff training;
  • Hands-on experience with Leica Bond 3 and/or Akoya PhenoImager HT (desirable).
