Higher Level Teaching Assistant/Teaching Assistant

Nacton Church of England Primary School seeks an experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) or an experienced Teaching Assistant (TA) with the desire to train to be and take on the role of HLTA to join our supportive, close-knit team. This is a blended position, involving responsibilities as both an HLTA and, at times, a Teaching Assistant.
Salary: £25,185 - £33,699 pro rata (TA: £25,185 - £28,142 pro rata; HLTA: £30,024 - £33,699 pro rata). Hours: Full time. Contract: Permanent, required from September 2026. Location: The Street, Nacton IP10 0EU. Reference: 8809.
Key responsibilitiesAs a Teaching Assistant:
- Engaging with pupils individually and in small groups supporting in class and delivering interventions.
As an HLTA:
- Cover teaching 3 afternoons a week for PPA time (in year 2 and key stage 2) under the direction of class teachers.
- Providing additional planned and emergency cover for teacher absence and release.
- Teaching our small year 2 class of 14 children on a Friday.
- Confidence in leading whole-class teaching.
- Experience as a TA if wishing to progress to HLTA.
- A strong understanding of the primary curriculum and effective teaching strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- An ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff.
