Job Description

Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: Lewisham Contract Type: Part time, Supply Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

An inclusive and welcoming primary school is seeking a dedicated and experienced HLTA to join their team on a part time, supply basis starting ASAP. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated HLTA who is passionate about supporting children's learning, development, and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school, working closely with class teachers, leadership staff, and support teams to help pupils reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, your role will include:

  • Delivering planned learning activities to individuals, small groups, or whole classes in the absence of the class teacher
  • Supporting the planning and assessment of learning in line with the national curriculum
  • Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining a purposeful, engaging learning environment
  • Supporting pupils with a range of needs, including SEND, EAL, and varying ability levels
  • Monitoring, recording, and feeding back on pupils' progress and achievements
  • Working collaboratively with teachers to adapt learning materials and approaches
  • Providing pastoral support and contributing to pupils' social and emotional development
  • Supporting classroom routines and contributing to the wider life of the school
  • Upholding safeguarding, wellbeing, and health & safety standards at all times

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Strong experience working within a primary school setting
  • Confidence delivering lessons independently across different year groups
  • A positive, flexible, and proactive attitude
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A strong understanding of child development and inclusive practice
  • A genuine passion for education and supporting children to succeed
