Are you passionate about improving housing standards and helping residents live safely, independently, and comfortably in their homes?

Chesterfield Borough Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Healthy Homes Manager to lead our Private Sector Housing Renewal function.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape housing improvement initiatives across the borough while managing key programmes that support some of our most vulnerable residents.

About the Role

You will lead the delivery and development of the council's Private Sector Housing Renewal Policy and oversee the administration of financial assistance programmes, including the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) service.

You will manage a team of Technical Officers and play a pivotal role in ensuring residents can remain safe, healthy, and independent within their homes.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing the Housing Renewal Service, budgets, performance, and legislative compliance.

Developing and implementing private sector housing policies and strategies.

Leading the delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants and associated financial assistance schemes.

Managing significant capital and revenue budgets.

Building effective partnerships with contractors, health services, housing providers, and other stakeholders.

Producing and presenting reports to senior management, Members, Cabinet, and committees.

Driving service improvement, performance management, and external funding opportunities.

Providing specialist advice on housing, environmental health, and housing renewal legislation.

About you

We are looking for a confident and experienced manager with:

Essential

Extensive knowledge of housing standards, housing hazards, and relevant housing legislation.

Experience of supervising and developing staff within a service environment.

Strong budget management and project management experience.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and report-writing skills.

Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, landlords, contractors, and partner organisations.

A relevant degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience).

Management qualification or substantial management experience.

Full UK driving licence and the ability to travel throughout the borough.

Desirable

Experience of delivering Disabled Facilities Grant services.

Knowledge of Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) requirements.

Building, surveying, or related professional qualifications.

Membership of a relevant professional body.
