A leading organisation within the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to lead and develop its HSE strategy across its UK operations.

Based in West Sussex, this is a high profile opportunity for an established HSE Manager to influence organisational culture, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance across a complex regulated environment. The organisation operates within the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, where quality, safety and operational excellence are critical to success.

The successful candidate will take ownership of Health, Safety and Environmental management systems, governance, risk assessment processes, incident management, occupational health programmes, contractor management, fire safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory engagement. Working closely with senior leadership, the HSE Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping strategy while also providing hands on operational support.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Health, Safety and Environmental policy, governance and compliance programmes.
• Develop and deliver HS&E objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage risk assessments, safe systems of work, contractor controls and permit systems.
• Oversee investigations, corrective actions, RIDDOR reporting and regulatory engagement.
• Drive occupational health, wellbeing and health surveillance programmes.
• Support environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives and waste management activities.
• Produce performance reports and present updates to senior stakeholders.
• Manage budgets and support wider business objectives.

About You

You will possess:

• NEBOSH Diploma, Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent qualification.
• Ideally, GradIOSH or CertIOSH membership with ongoing CPD.
• Significant Health, Safety and Environmental leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of RIDDOR, DSEAR, COSHH, fire safety, occupational health surveillance and environmental compliance.
• Experience operating within the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector or another highly regulated environment.
• The ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and drive a positive safety culture.

Location

This position is based in West Sussex, supporting site based, remote and hybrid employees. The successful candidate will be primarily office and operationally based within West Sussex, with occasional flexibility required to support business needs.
