An excellent opportunity has arisen at a leading third party logistics (3PL) company, based at one of its key sites in Thatcham. They have warehouse, logistics, vehicle maintenance and in house engineering facilities.

They are seeking a passionate and proactive Health, Safety and Environment Manager for a large, complex, fast paced site. This role sits within the site leadership team and involves leading large scale improvement projects, driving a more proactive and engaged culture, strengthening communications across departments, and embedding proactive safety behaviours. Additionally, the Manager will be involved in group wide peer reviews of other sites, providing a fresh pair of eyes.

Duties
  • Serve as the HSE subject matter expert on site, supporting both the General Manager and wider leadership team and acting as a key member of the HSE department for the wider group.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to implement the HSE strategy and site improvement plan.
  • Offer hands on support through site walk rounds, coaching and mentoring the wider workforce on the shop floor, and gain buy in from the leadership team and other management.
  • Embed a proactive and positive HSE culture, moving away from reactive and desk based support.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and cross functional teams to ensure company wide, health, safety and environmental improvements are implemented locally and site specific improvements.
  • Review site level reports and information to identify actionable insights, corrective actions or emerging risks.
  • Mentor and coach operational managers to develop their HSE leadership and management capability.
  • Provide professional advice to enable the site to achieve compliance with relevant legislation and internal standards.
  • Manage the triage of site incidents, delegate incident investigations and lead accident investigations where appropriate.
  • Monitor audit outcomes and reviews to ensure corrective actions are raised and implemented by the site leadership team.
  • Manage emergency planning and business continuity arrangements in partnership with operational teams.
  • Build and maintain respectful relationships and collaborate with local trade union H&S representatives.
  • Support the business to manage and defend the site's insurance claims.
  • Act as the primary contact for external agencies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Personality Fit
  • Proactive, passionate and down to earth, adaptable, self motivated and confident.
  • Can engage and empower others, driving accountability and ownership.
  • Able to collaborate, influence, gain buy in and communicate strongly.
Essential qualifications and background
  • NEBOSH Certificate, ideally from a fast paced environment within Warehouse, Logistics, Retail, Manufacturing or a similar field.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of presenting to the leadership team.
