Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK. The board employs around 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical roles, delivering acute, primary, community and mental health care to a population of over 1.15 million (2.2 million when regional and national services are included).

This is a permanent, full-time post of 37 hours per week. The shift pattern is 08:00 - 18:00 (9.5 hours) over 4 days.

This is an exciting opportunity to join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's Public Health Protection Unit (PHPU) as a permanent Health Protection Nurse Specialist. The post is based within the Public Health Protection Unit, 1st Floor, West House, Gartnavel Royal Hospital Campus.

Responsibilities
  • Support and protect the local population from communicable diseases and environmental hazards by identifying risks, investigating incidents and mitigating exposures to prevent, control or reduce health risks, and minimise damage to health when hazards occur.
  • Work closely with the public, Infectious Diseases Unit staff, Infection Prevention and Control Teams, laboratory staff, Pharmacy, Immunisation Teams and local partner agencies to enable multidisciplinary collaboration and effective public health protection.
  • Engage in community work and vaccinations as part of public health protection activities.
  • Work within a 7-day public health department to cover weekend and public holiday requirements as part of the role.
  • Adhere to shift patterns (08:00 - 18:00, 9.5 hours) across 4 days, including Monday to Sunday when required by service duties.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered nurse/midwife/RMN on the NMC Register.
  • Hold a relevant first degree or post-registration qualification and demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Be working towards a master's level qualification in Public Health, Infection Control or a similar field.
  • Substantial post-registration experience.
