Job overviewAvon Breast Screening is the largest breast screening programme in the Southwest, inviting over 60,000 women every year for breast screening. It is one of the National Health Service Breast Screening Programmes (NHSBSP) aiming to save lives through early detection of breast cancer. The role of the Breast Screening Health Promotion Administrative Assistant is to support the clinical teams in managing all administrative tasks across outpatient activity within the Breast Screening Service, and help improve uptake for breast screening, supporting the health promotion team.
The role is mainly based at the Breast Care Centre, Southmead Hospital however the post holder is also expected to work on reception at Avon Breast Screening, Central Health Clinic, Tower Hill on a regular basis in rotation with the team.
Main duties of the job To support the breast screening health promotion team by improving screening uptake, engaging with communities, and assisting with administrative tasks. The role involves planning and delivering health promotion activities, liaising with healthcare providers and community organisations and providing administrative support to ensure efficient clinic operations and accurate patient records. Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Carry out health promotion activities and plan events in current screening areas.
- Work closely with the breast screening nurse.
- Contribute at network meetings and team events.
- Support health fairs, and other community engagement events to deliver health promotion and brief interventions
- Contribute to research and development as directed by breast screening nurse or Programme Manager
- Carry out patient DNA telephone clinics to gain understanding and provide support for non-attenders, auditing each call.
- Provide information and routine health promotion advice.
- Liaise with GP practices and Primary care to plan and discuss Health promoting ideas and concerns.
- Liaise with businesses to help reach target populations and communities.
- Actively seek out 'Hard to Reach' populations and help them to engage in health lifestyle initiatives
- Keep up to date with the breast screening schedule in Avon Breast Screening area.
- Contribute at network meetings and team events.
- Monitor and evaluate outcomes via processes, procedures, and systems.
- Develop fact sheets and resources to use on social media and breast screening web page
- Schedule new or follow-up outpatient appointments, organise investigative and diagnostic appointments in line with NHSBSP standards and performance targets.
- To ensure that routine results letters are despatched to clients in a timely manner. To elevate any delays in the pathway to the Screening Officer Manager.
- To deal with complex and sensitive enquiries from all service users in a helpful, courteous & diplomatic manner.
- Receive calls from health care professionals, Trust employees and other breast screening offices regarding the screening programme, offering help and advice in accordance with agreed NHS
