Health & Safety Specialist

Imagine using your health and safety expertise to help maintain a safe, compliant, and continuously improving pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

This is an opportunity to join a Global Safety & Environment team in Carlow , supporting health, safety, and environmental activities across a highly regulated manufacturing facility. You'll provide practical EHS guidance to operational and technical teams while contributing to audits, inspections, risk management, regulatory compliance, and site improvement initiatives.

This role is suited to an experienced EHS professional who is confident working within a manufacturing environment and can turn technical requirements into practical, effective safety solutions.

What you'll achieve (and why it matters)
  • Develop and maintain EHS programmes and procedures in line with legislation and industry best practice.
  • Conduct EHS audits, workplace inspections, and compliance reviews , identifying risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance on workplace hazards, machinery, plant, processes, and equipment safety .
  • Work with operational teams to implement appropriate risk controls and corrective actions .
  • Monitor compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation , including EPA requirements and permits.
  • Support EHS training and employee awareness programmes , including hazardous substance awareness.
  • Provide EHS input into projects, process changes, equipment installations, and new operations .
  • Prepare EHS reports and maintain accurate documentation and compliance records .
  • Respond to day-to-day EHS queries and provide practical guidance to site teams.
  • Contribute to initiatives that strengthen the site's Safety First culture and overall EHS performance .
Your edge (desired, not required)
  • 5+ years' EHS / Health & Safety experience within a manufacturing facility.
  • Proven experience working in a highly regulated environment .
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Experience with EHS audits, inspections, risk management, and compliance activities .
  • Experience developing or maintaining EHS programmes and systems.
  • Experience supporting projects, process changes, equipment, or manufacturing operations .
  • Pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical device, healthcare, or other regulated manufacturing experience is advantageous.
  • Previous experience within a GMP-regulated facility is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Irish EHS legislation, EPA compliance, and environmental requirements is beneficial.
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals or substances is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across departments and organisational levels.
  • Excellent organisational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office .
  • Proactive, practical approach with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
