A lovely, well-organised specialist arts school located in the borough of Islington is looking for a committed and supportive Head of year.

Job role

This is a new role for the sixth form aimed to strengthen teaching leadership at Year-group level. You will be expected to lead the form tutors across the sixth form as well as own the PSHCE and tutor curriculum and drive standards, achievement and culture across the year.

As Head of Year your role will include:

  • Lead and support the Year Groups tutor team, setting clear expectations and driving consistency across tutor practice.
  • Chair regular tutor meetings, providing direction, briefing and developmental support.
  • Hold tutors to account for quality of tutor time.
  • Support tutors to know their students well and respond effectively to emerging concerns about progress.
  • Own the design, sequencing and quality assurance of the PSHCE and tutor curriculum for the year group.
  • Ensure the tutor programme is purposeful, well-resourced and consistently delivered across all tutor groups
  • Quality assure tutor time through regular observation, review and feedback
  • Work with the PPD lead to ensure pastoral content and student development themes are embedded appropriately within the programme.
  • Establish and maintain high expectations around student conduct, Professional behaviours and readiness for learning.
  • Be a strong, Visible daily presence with students, modelling and reinforcing the standards expected at the school
  • Drive year group identity and a strong sense of community and belong within the cohort
  • Coordinate year group interventions where issues relate to habits, motivation, progress, behaviour or professional conduct
  • Maintain strategic oversight of vulnerable groups within the year group, including disadvantaged students, looked after children, students with SEND and underrepresented groups
