I'm working with a London Boroughwho are seeking an experienced Interim Head of Waste & Green Spaces to lead a high-performing environmental services function.
This is a key leadership role managing a large frontline workforce (500+ via direct and agency routes) across a broad portfolio including waste management, street cleansing, parks and green spaces, cemeteries & crematoria, and depot operations. With up to 15 direct reports, you'll be the strategic lead for service transformation, compliance, and innovation in line with corporate priorities and environmental policy.

Key Priorities:

• Lead and improve operational delivery of all frontline waste and green space services.
• Develop future strategy across waste, biodiversity, and carbon reduction.
• Drive commercial outcomes while ensuring high resident satisfaction.
• Lead cross-council collaboration, depot oversight, and multi-stakeholder engagement.
• Deliver against MTFF targets, ensuring robust budget control (c.£29m).

You'll be expected to lead from the front-visible on the ground, proactive with stakeholders, and confident in challenging internal and external partners to drive standards forward.
Ideal Profile:

• Proven senior-level experience in waste/environmental services within local government.
• Strong people leadership and operational management across complex services.
• Financially astute, politically aware, and comfortable operating in high-expectation environments.
• Ability to influence, collaborate, and bring energy to a large-scale workforce and strategic agenda.
