About this role Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, this is an exciting opportunity to lead a centralised royalties team servicing the needs of our UK wide business. The Head of Royalties will lead and manage royalty operations across Banijay UK, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant reporting and payments to rights holders and profit participants. This role is critical to upholding contractual obligations and maintaining trusted relationships with talent and partners in a fast-paced TV environment. The role takes full responsibility for setting up, maintaining and improving the recording and reporting framework for the UK, with a team of Royalty and Management Accountants. The focus of the role is to: embed efficient and effective processes; ensure the team provide timely and accurate royalty reporting; instil great communication and relationships with internal and external stakeholders; implement consistency of royalty statements and other team outputs; and drive improvement and change in our processes and technology usage. The Banijay UK Royalties team will cover commercial activity which includes but is not limited to income streams such as merchandise, gaming, branded content, digital inventory and royalties from the distribution of Banijay UK's programmes and formats. The key internal stakeholders will be the Finance teams, Legal teams, Production labels, Banijay Rights, and the treasury function. The Head of Royalties will play an integral role in maintaining some key relationships with external format owners. Duties Royalty Management & Reporting• Oversee end-to-end royalty processing, including data collection, calculation, statement preparation, and payment• Ensure all royalty statements comply with contractual terms and relevant UK legislation• Responsible for embedding a process and review structure which enables the Royalty Accountants to prepare accurate royalty calculations and statements• Present financial information to internal stakeholders and external format owners on a regular and agreed basis. The reporting will cover major and high-profile titles including Masterchef• Develop and maintain short-term and long-term royalties cash forecasting models, aligning with broader treasury and FP&A forecasts• Manage internal and external royalty audits, including reconciliations and responses to third-party queries• Maintain robust documentation and controls to support compliance and audit readinessContractual Compliance• Interpret complex contractual terms relating to royalties and revenue participation• Work closely with legal and business affairs to ensure royalty clauses are implementable and clearly recordedCommercial Insight• Oversee modelling and analysis of payaway assumptions for secured and forecasted deals, factoring in royalty obligations, third-party splits, and recoupable advances to determine accurate revenue share and profitability• Review and validate commercial performance by analysing actuals vs forecast, identifying key drivers of variance• Support the development and improvement of commercial deal tracking tools and dashboards ensuring key terms, assumptions and performance metrics are visible and actionable• Manage 'royalties in' process by tracking incoming royalty revenues. Monitor and reconcile actual income received against contractual terms and forecast expectations flagging discrepancies or underpayments• Work closely with Banijay Rights to ensure timely and accurate receipt of royalty income data, validating completeness and accuracy of reportingTeam Leadership• Lead and develop the team, setting performance objectives and fostering professional growth• Drive continuous improvement across processes, systems, and reporting tools• Set a framework for the team to timetable and prioritise deliverables for the short and long term• Develop and support the team in providing clear, accurate and timely information to the wider finance team, ensuring that we report to UK and Group reporting deadlinesStakeholder Collaboration• Act as a key liaison with talent agents, collection societies, broadcasters, and distributors• Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Production, and Banijay Rights to ensure smooth royalty workflows• Interpret and assess the financial implications of commercial deals and explain royalty impacts to non-finance stakeholdersChange management & Systems• Assess, recommend, and where necessary, implement solutions for rights and royalties systems• Identify and implement automation and digital transformation opportunities to increase accuracy and efficiency• Lead the set up and process for maintaining a master database/repository of royalty information Knowledge & Skills • Proven experience in a senior royalties or rights finance role within the TV industry• Strong understanding of the UK royalties landscape• Ability to interpret and operationalise complex royalty clauses and contracts• Proven track record for driving process efficiencies and changes that increase robustness in royalties reporting processes• Organised, self-motivated and pro-active individual - able to work independently and take responsibility for ensuring high quality deliverables are produced on a timely and professional basis• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to respond to and make decisions based on rapidly changing circumstances and assist team members in the same• Strong financial modelling experience coupled with advanced Excel• High level of numeracy and attention to detail• The ability to work calmly under pressure to tight deadlines• Team management experience• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Reporting To Director of Financial Planning & Analysis Contract Type Permanent Hours We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
