Job Description

We are looking to hire an exceptional, results-driven Head of Maintenance & Facilities Management to lead and transform our maintenance operations and facilities management across two manufacturing sites within 15 miles of each other. This pivotal role demands a self-starter who can develop, monitor and elevate our maintenance standards to world-class levels whilst improving and maintaining 260,000 sq.ft. of manufacturing and office space. The ideal candidate will expertly manage two distinctmaintenance teams (and one facilities management team), harmonise processes anddrive continuous improvement while focusing on cost-efficiency, predictive maintenanceand strategic capital expenditure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, motivate and develop two separate maintenance teams & one facilitiesmanagement team across different sites, fostering a culture of excellence,accountability and continuous improvement
  • Align team goals with overall business objectives, ensuring consistent performanceand standards across both locations
  • Implement best practices in team communication, cross-site collaboration andknowledge sharing
  • Lead existing internal performance management process to assist in thedevelopment of all maintenance and facilities team members
  • Hire and develop long-term succession candidate(s) to enable new opportunitiesacross an expanding Group of businesses

2. World-Class Maintenance Standards

  • Develop and implement world-class maintenance strategies and KPIs aligned withglobal manufacturing best practices
  • Benchmark maintenance performance against industry leaders and drive initiatives toclose any gaps
  • Establish a culture of proactive maintenance, leveraging predictive technologies anddata-driven decision-making

3. Multi-Site Optimisation

  • Harmonise maintenance processes, schedules, and resource allocation across bothsites to maximise efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  • Implement standardised procedures and best practices, ensuring consistency whileadapting to site-specific needs
  • Use digital twinning techniques to examine and compare the merits of differentmanufacturing layouts and combinations
  • Coordinate cross-site support and resource sharing to optimise overall maintenanceeffectiveness

4. Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Develop long-term maintenance strategies that align with business growth plans andindustry trends
  • Lead the implementation of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems(CMMS) across both sites, ensuring seamless integration and utilisation
  • Identify and execute opportunities for automation, digitalisation and Industry 4.0technologies in maintenance operations

5. Cost Management & Capital Expenditure

  • Analyse £650,000 of annual maintenance spend across both sites, identifyingopportunities for efficiency gains and quarterly cost reduction plans
  • Develop and present compelling business cases for capital investments, focusing onROI and long-term operational benefits
  • Optimise spare parts inventory management and procurement strategies across sites

6. Continuous Improvement & Lean Practices

  • Apply lean principles and DMAIC methodologies to streamline maintenanceprocesses and eliminate waste
  • Lead root cause analysis initiatives to address recurring issues and drive sustainableimprovements
  • Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging team members to propose and implementimprovement ideas

7. Compliance & Safety Leadership

  • Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations, including PUWER and HSEguidelines, across both sites
  • Lead by example in promoting a safety-first culture, conducting regular audits andsafety walks
  • Stay abreast of evolving industry standards and regulatory requirements,implementing changes proactively

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) is preferredbut experience can count for just as much
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing maintenance with at least 5years in a leadership role
  • Proven track record of implementing world-class maintenance practices in multi-siteenvironments
  • Strong background in lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies andDMAIC processes
  • Expert knowledge of CMMS and Industry 4.0 implementation and optimisation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate diverse teams across multiple locations
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach todecision-making
  • Financial fluency with experience in budget management and capital expenditureplanning
  • First-rate communication and interpersonal skills with technical ability to make bestuse of the latest digital technologies to improve reporting to Group Finance andLeadership teams as well as visual communication across two sites

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement across both sites
  • Reduction in maintenance costs as a percentage of manufacturing cost
  • Improvement in predictive maintenance effectiveness (% of failures predicted andprevented)
  • Employee engagement and development metrics within maintenance teams
  • Successful implementation and utilisation of CMMS across both sites
  • ROI on maintenance-related capital expenditures
  • Timely, insightful and effective monthly reporting of all KPIs and improvements in allseven areas of key responsibility

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, to minimise operationaldowntime
  • Ability to travel between sites regularly and respond to emergency situations asneeded
