The Head of Governance & Chief of Staff is responsible for ensuring the Society has best-in-class, efficient and transparent governance and leadership policies, practices and ways of working which drive organisational purpose and contribute to high performance. The role ensures compliance with all legal and regulatory frameworks, oversees the smooth running of the Trustee Board and associated sub-committees, and supports effective decision making within the Society.
The Head of Governance & Chief of Staff will oversee the Chief Executive's office, ensuring it is run efficiently and acting as key contact for a range of external stakeholders and supporters. The postholder will also oversee the internal governance of the NSPCC, ensuring that the link between directorates, Executive Leadership Team and the board is strong, and that we are continuously looking for ways to improve our internal governance.
As part of the leadership team of NSPCC, this role maintains an organisation wide assessment of key risks, opportunities and challenges presented by the external environment, and drives improvement by identifying opportunities for collaboration and integration within and across directorates. The Head of Governance & Chief of Staff plays a vital role in fostering a culture of accountability and transparency within the organisation including owning the Complaints, Comments and Compliments and Speaking Out policies.
The Head of Governance & Chief of Staff provides expert advice and support to the Chair, Trustees and sub committee members in fulfilling their statutory duties and all other governance matters, including associated risks. The post-holder will drive innovation and a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, developing and championing improvements to processes and procedures including in the provision of a wide range of board level secretarial and administrative support. This role will also be responsible for administering the appointment, induction, development and appraisal of trustees, including timely and skills based succession planning which is underpinned by the Society's values.
