Head of Family Law | Supervising Solicitor | Legal Aid | £100k | Woolwich/Hybrid

The Opportunity

We are working with a well-established and highly regarded law firm looking to appoint a Head of Family Law/Supervising Solicitor to lead their team based in Woolwich.

This is a senior position combining hands-on leadership, supervision and complex casework, with a strong focus on publicly funded family law. You will play a key role in maintaining high technical standards, supporting team development and ensuring compliance with Legal Aid requirements.

This role would suit an experienced family solicitor looking to step into, or further develop within, a leadership position while continuing to handle meaningful and often sensitive work.

Key Responsibilities

• Leading and supervising a team of family solicitors and caseworkers
• Acting as a Supervising Solicitor in line with Legal Aid Agency requirements
• Managing a complex caseload of family law matters, including public and private children work
• Advising on matters such as care proceedings, child protection and domestic abuse
• Ensuring compliance with Legal Aid contracts, regulations and quality standards
• Supporting and mentoring junior team members, including file reviews and technical guidance
• Driving performance, quality and consistency across the team
• Contributing to business development and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders
• Supporting wider firm objectives and growth within the family department

About You

• Qualified Solicitor with significant experience in family law
• Strong background in publicly funded (Legal Aid) work
• Meets the requirements to act as a Supervising Solicitor under Legal Aid guidelines
• Ideally a member of, or working towards, the Children Panel
• Proven experience managing or supervising a team
• Excellent technical knowledge across family law, particularly children matters
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
• Able to manage a demanding caseload while supporting others
