Ref: HL13530

Finatal are currently partnering with a high-growth PE-backed B2B events and media business that is undergoing a large-scale transformation following recent acquisition activity. With strong investor backing and a clear mandate for data-driven decision-making, they're now looking to hire a Head of Data to scale and mature the function. This will involve owning and developing a new data strategy, expanding a centralised team across Analytics, Engineering and (eventually) Data Science, and embedding data availability across every business area. You'll work cross-functionally with transformation, marketing, sales, IT and finance to ensure insights are driving real commercial outcomes, and act as a key partner to the executive team and investors ahead of a planned exit in 2027.

Role:

  • Joining the newly invested business, you will develop and deliver a data and BI strategy that enables faster decision-making across all areas of the organisation, reporting to the Transformation Director and working closely with the wider executive leadership team.
  • You will lead a small but growing central data team, providing hands-on coaching to junior analysts while building out the function across data engineering and, in time, data science.
  • A technical background will be important as you work directly with the existing Snowflake data warehouse, Matillion ETL processes, and Power BI dashboards, advising on code, reviewing output, and setting best practices.
  • You will act as the go-to data leader for the business, partnering with senior stakeholders across transformation, marketing, sales, finance, and product to ensure data is driving real commercial impact.
  • As the business continues its digital transformation, you'll play a key role in helping teams become more confident using data, improving quality, shaping better ways of working, and building a culture of curiosity and continuous learning.

Requirements:

  • You're a proven data leader with experience building data teams and strategies in a commercial business, ideally during a period of scale, transformation or investment.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, you've either started your career in consulting or worked closely with senior execs and boards, both internally and externally.
  • Technical background, ideally across Snowflake, Matillion and Power BI for visualisation, with the ability to roll up your sleeves to support analysts and engineers when needed.
  • Commercially minded with a growth-first approach, you will have a deep understanding of how data and technology can unlock new revenue opportunities, streamline operations, and drive sustainable business value.
