We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Head of Bids to join our Work Winning team and support our ambitious growth plan. This is a remote role that will require regular travel, usually to Birmingham or London.
The Head of Bids will take accountability for the programme and resourcing, managing bid governance and the bid process. They will be responsible for leading the proposals team and being the focal point for developing and managing the shared workspace, consolidated bid programme and bid budget, together with business reporting activities and KPI measurement data.
Controlling and ensuring adherence to the Work Winning Management Systems (WWMS) is a critical part of the role along with carrying out structured reviews to ensure governance and continuous improvement.
They will drive the implementation and sharing of bidding best practice across the Business enabling delivery of high value winning bids. Developing and managing performance and improvement within the bidding community, fostering an environment of continual improvement, and ensuring shared learning is vital.
What you will do:
- Plan, manage and identify resource requirements for bids including support functions and those allocated to deliver the operational/technical solution.
- Manage a realistic and up-to-date bid programme ensuring that all activities are progressed in line with the programme.
- Direct the review process.
- Direct the preparation of papers for internal approval in line with Amey governance.
- Ensure lessons learnt and best practice reviews are conducted to drive continual improvement, develop bidding strategies, and promote innovation in the bid management community.
- Support the management and development of a team of bidding professionals to provide effective support to the full range of bidding activity in the BU.
- Support the development of the bidding competencies in operational staff and act as coach/mentor for bid managers and business leads who are managing business-led bids.
- Lead bid reviews and make recommendations for improvements based on findings.
- Support the management team in setting the BU strategy and objectives.
What you will bring:
- Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Working towards Association of Proposals Management Professionals Practitioner level.
- Strong time management skills with ability to prioritise.
- Ability to facilitate meetings/workshops to develop winning solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Experience of successful bidding, ideally in a related sector
- Experience of the leading multiple bid processes in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of public (and private) sector bid requirements.
- Experience of keeping track of multiple, complex, time-phased activities.
- Strong project management and application of processes and knowledge to make changes and achieve objectives.
- Team player, problem solver, process oriented, organised, innovative and strong at building relationships
- Advanced IT skills - specifically Microsoft Excel and SharePoint.
