Job Description

Purpose of the role

To prepare and respond to financial distress by developing and implementing recovery and resolution plans, assessing the financial viability of distressed entities, and advising on potential resolution strategies.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and evaluate potential resolution strategies for distressed entities, analyzing the financial implications and potential impacts of each strategy.
  • Develop and maintain recovery and resolution plans for the bank's business units and entities, assessing critical functions and dependencies to ensure continuity of essential services during distress.
  • Analyze financial data and assess the viability of distressed entities to evaluate financial strength, capital position, and liquidity risks.
  • Oversee Barclays' Financial Crisis Management Framework in collaboration with Treasury; maintain Barclays' Group Recovery Plan.
  • Maintain resolution capabilities across the Group and its Material Legal Entities; coordinate and deliver regulatory and public disclosures in the UK and Europe.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements through appropriate controls and governance processes.
  • Maintain valuation capabilities, including models, methodologies, processes, and documentation, with procedures to onboard external valuers if needed.
  • Test resolvability capabilities across multiple workstreams with Boards, Executive Committees, and senior management.
  • Support business stakeholders across the group in meeting global regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate with regulators to provide timely updates on recovery and resolution activities.

Director Expectations

  • Manage a business function, contributing to strategic initiatives, policy development, and managing complex projects.
  • Lead a large team or sub-function, fostering a performance culture aligned with business values, or act as a technical expert on organization-wide projects.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management and committees, influencing decisions beyond the immediate function.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for significant sub-functions.
  • Ensure policy compliance and appropriate escalation of breaches.
  • Promote compliance and regulatory adherence within the function.
  • Monitor and influence external environment, regulators, and advocacy groups as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the function's integration with the business and industry practices.
  • Apply analytical skills to solve complex problems and design solutions.
  • Make significant strategic decisions within the area of authority.
  • Negotiate and influence stakeholders at senior levels internally and externally.
  • Act as a principal contact for key clients and other functions.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
