The Role

YLEM Energy are seeking a Head of Asset Management to take the lead in ensuring their gas peaking portfolio achieves and maintains a high level of commercial success and operational excellence and continual improvement. This role is integral to the continued success of the company's growing peaker portfolio. YLEM's current peaking portfolio stands at 63MW, spread over 8 projects in operation and is expected to grow further over the next few years.

As the Head of Asset Management, you will oversee the gas peaking portfolio projects across the UK and be responsible for their financial and operational performance. This role offers a chance to work with a diverse team and in a dynamic environment that encourages innovative thinking, adaptability and flexibility. Someone who is versatile and proficient and adept with changing circumstances and is excited to take on the challenge and who can confidently interact with all levels of the business, from the boots on the ground to the senior leadership and board of directors, and everyone in between.

Reporting to the Managing Director of the YLEM Energy group, the Head of Asset Management will be fully responsible for the performance of the business's operational gas peaker assets. There will need to be strong interplay with Ylem's experienced and high performing in-house Operations and Finance teams as well as the main YLEM Energy Board.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

Asset Performance, Monitoring and Reporting

  • Performance Analysis:Identify under-performing assets and coordinate corrective action with YLEM's in-house Operations Managers to optimise asset revenues. Create and maintain meaningful operational KPI's making sure these are used to drive high commercial performance as their primary function.
  • Reporting:Produce portfolio performance reports for internal stakeholders and investors, utilising financial and operational data to drive decision making
  • Benchmarking: Compare asset by asset performance and commercial outputs to drive operational and commercial improvements, and benchmark against the wider market.

Warranty Tracking

  • Warranty Management:Work with YLEM's Operations teams and maintain detailed logs of engine faults and failures, together with supporting information such as start date and reasons for fault/failure e.g. alarms. Use this information to drive corrective actions.
  • Claim Management:Work with our Operations Managers and help coordinate/ manage any warranty claims for defects, performance and insurance from the start to closure.
  • Coordination:Liaise with OEMs/ Operations teams and submit any required documentation and evidence, oil sampling, inspection schedules etc.
  • Reporting:Provide updates on warranty status, outstanding claims, forecast completions.

Route to Market, Compliance and Contract Management

  • Capacity Market:Responsible for the end-to-end process for the assets, including management of the prequalification process, securing contracts in the auctions and ensuring all CM administration required is completed accurately and on time.
  • Relationship Management:Responsible for managing the commercial performance of and contractual relationship with off takers/optimisers.
  • Performance Management:Feeding back on the financial performance of the assets and ensuring maximum value is being realised.
  • Monitoring:Assess the current market and keep abreast of new opportunities that drive revenue for gas peaking assets.
  • Compliance:Monitor and keep up to date with changes to regulations and ensure the assets are always compliant e.g. carbon compliance, noise etc.

Financial

  • Forecasting:Ability to look at trading margin analysis vs forecasts, including quarterly re-forecasting.
  • Strategy:Monitoring the run hours and analysing the minimum profit margin (short run marginal rate) to maximise value during trading

Team Development

  • Interpersonal:Work closely with cross functional teams, including Operations, Finance, Projects and Procurement and EHS to ensure alignment with broader business objectives.
  • Culture: Promote an open, collaborative environment across these various teams, encourage knowledge sharing, best practice adoption and innovation. Lead by example and drive a culture of accountability, quality and continuous improvement.

The Person

Required skills and experience

  • Demonstrate leadership and understanding of O&M activities.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be an effective communicator across the business at multiple levels. Foster a collaborative working environment.
  • An analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player and self-starter across technical, regulatory, commercial and field functions.
  • Adaptable to evolving market and regulatory conditions.
  • Must have experience with data analysis tools e.g. Excel, PBI
  • Must have a deep understanding of Aggregator energy trading strategies and therefore knowledge of the applicable revenue stack.
  • Ideally a degree in Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Ideally at least 3yrs+ in asset management of power generation assets, or a relatable field.
  • Ideally part of a registered body, e.g. IAM, IET
  • Full UK driving license.

The Opportunity

YLEM have a strong asset management structure in place now, but there is autonomy in this role to streamline and optimise their processes and put your stamp on YLEM's asset management function.
