As a Handyperson with one of our housing repair teams you can make your own powerful contribution to Westminster's success. We're committed to keeping our huge stock of homes in an excellent state of repair, and in this role you'll be on the go from the moment you join us. Carrying out a range of general handyperson jobs in internal and external communal environments, you'll ensure that all the work you do is of the highest quality and is carried out safely, in accordance with our code of conduct and with the utmost respect to our residents and their homes.
You'll quickly discover that no two days are the same at Westminster, because you'll be working on a broad range of multi skilled jobs as you provide a comprehensive communal repairs and renewals service. These could include ground works, carpentry, plumbing, glazing, painting, decorating, plastering or tiling. It goes without saying that you'll be respectful, positive, polite, on time and listen to the needs of all the residents you work with, maintain a high level of cleanliness by using dust sheets and boot covers, and leave properties in a clean and safe condition.
Additional tasks will include driving a works vehicle to collect materials from builders' merchants, maintaining stock levels in depots, stores and your van, keeping tools in good condition, and ensuring that vehicles are maintained to a high level of cleanliness. We'll also expect you to improve your skills by attending toolbox talks, health and safety training and other courses, and be committed to delivering your duties in the most environmentally friendly and efficient way possible.
To be a success in this busy role you'll be a good all rounder with plenty of hands on experience in a wide range of areas, including painting, plastering, tiling, bricklaying, lifting and replacing paving slabs, carpentry, fencing and lock changing. Ready to work both on your own and as part of a small team, you'll often be working in people's homes so you'll be a confident, friendly and reassuring presence, and have well developed knowledge of the latest health and safety legislation.
It's important that you're capable of using your own initiative when it comes to organising and undertaking the jobs you're assigned, and have a methodical approach to everything you do. Sometimes you'll be required to move and lift heavy objects like paving slabs and bags of cement, so you should have the necessary physical attributes. You may have to erect and work on temporary platforms, so it's important that you have a good head for heights, and you could also be required to operate in confined spaces while wearing the appropriate PPE.
With a full UK driving licence (no more than 3 points), any experience of working in Social Housing would be desirable. This is an exciting opportunity for a practical and committed handyperson, so if you enjoy meeting and working with people from our diverse communities, apply now.
