Full-time post for a Consultant Haematologist with expertise in Myeloma for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
This is a new substantive post joining the Myeloma team. The post holder will join the Clinical Haematology team based at the City campus however they will also provide input into the Haematology service at QMC campus. This post holder will join the Myeloma service alongside Associate Professor Dean Smith, Dr Fran Wadelin, Dr Amber Hodgson, Dr Kandee Saravanamuttu and Dr Muhammed Saleh. Candidates should have a specialist interest in this disease area. In addition, there will be in involvement in the myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and general haematology services, so experience of these area is also essential. The Consultant will also contribute to general and laboratory Haematology services to the Trust and participate in the Acute Haemato-oncology service to meet peer review standards.
Main duties of the jobThe appointee will be expected to fulfil the following duties within the agreed Job Plan. The post will join a team of 17 other Consultants offering a full haematological malignancy service but will have a special interest in myeloma. The appointee will join in the attending rota covering the inpatient myeloma service for one month in 4.5.

A full range of haematological conditions are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under their care.
Provision with Consultant colleagues of a comprehensive elective and emergency clinical and laboratory Haematology service including general haematology and referrals from GPs and other Consultants.
Participation in the 'Acute Haemato-Oncology' service; to facilitate timely Consultant review of non-elective patients admitted under Clinical Haematology and BMT
Provision of reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and the proper functioning of the department.
Teaching of junior doctors, appraisal, supervision, and assessment of junior doctors
These duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, their Consultant colleagues, and the Trust.
The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of their time to the duties of the post and give them priority at all times.

Person Specification Professional Registration- Full GMC registration (or within 6 months of interview)
- CCT (or within 6 months of award of CCT by date of interview)
- Non-UK trained residents required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
- FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
- MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification
- Higher professional degree
- Experience of management of Myeloma and MPN
- Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals
- Specific training in communication skills
- Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors
- Able to develop, present and operationalise coherant ideas for service development and delivery
- Able to work in a team
- Higher management degree or qualification training
- Experience of change management
- Evidence of participation in a Clinical Audit
- Evidence of ability to teach and support junior staff effectively
- GCP training
- Original Research
- Experience in clinical trials in Haematology
- Higher teaching degree or qualification or attendance at educational supervisor training event
