Location: Amsterdam (Hybrid - 3 days in-office)

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Group Risk Manager to join a growing international technology business headquartered in Amsterdam. This newly created position offers the rare opportunity to take full ownership of a new risk framework and lead the evolution of the function across a diverse, multi-country operation.

As the first dedicated risk professional in the organisation, the successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the company's approach to enterprise risk, ensuring it is fit for purpose as the business continues to scale. The role offers clear progression potential to Group Head of Risk Management in line with future growth of the department and the business.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Risk Management

• Assume ownership of the Group's enterprise risk management framework and further develop it in alignment with business strategy.
• Build and maintain group-wide risk registers, ensuring clear visibility of key risks and mitigations.
• Lead regular risk assessments with senior leadership and departmental heads across all business functions.
• Support the shift from reactive to predictive risk management, identifying emerging risks and enhancing preparedness.
• Deliver meaningful risk reporting and dashboards to senior leadership and the Board, enabling informed decision-making.

Operational Risk & Mitigation

• Proactively design and implement practical mitigation strategies across business areas.
• Engage directly in hands-on risk work, supporting teams with tools, training, and challenge as appropriate.
• Collaborate with internal teams to strengthen controls, promote operational resilience, and embed a risk-aware culture.
• Ensure lessons learned from incidents are captured and acted upon.

Insurance Portfolio Management

• Manage the group's insurance programme at both the subsidiary and corporate level.
• Oversee placement, renewal, and claims processes in collaboration with brokers and insurers.
• Ensure compliance with business and stakeholder requirements, and maintain clear, timely reporting of the group's insurance exposure.

Cross-functional Engagement

• Work closely with senior leaders, functional heads, and external partners across multiple countries.
• Partner with the ESG team to ensure material ESG risks are appropriately considered and reflected in the risk register.
• Liaise with corporate IT where relevant, to ensure coverage of corporate level IT risks

Profile

Experience and Background

• 8+ years in risk management, ideally within an SME or growth-stage international organisation.
• Strong background in operational or enterprise risk, preferably in a technology, infrastructure, or energy-related business.
• Prior exposure to businesses operating in African markets is highly advantageous.
• Experience handling insurance portfolios and working with external brokers and insurers.

• Excellent judgement, with the ability to think both strategically and operationally.
