Job Description

Graduate Planner

Starting salary between £33,510 and £36,945 per annum

Are you a qualified Town Planner looking to kick-start your career in a supportive and forward-thinking local authority? If this sounds like you, join our Development Management team at the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk as a Graduate Planner and take the first step in a structured career path that will lead to Planner and Senior Planner roles.

We are a large borough with diverse landscapes, and you will join a team covering the historic and growing market towns of King's Lynn, Downham Market & Hunstanton, the Norfolk Coast National Landscape, the Fens and areas bordering the Brecks. We have 48 Conservation Areas with over 2000 Listed Buildings along with stunning historic estates such as Sandringham and Houghton.

In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in all aspects of rural, housing, urban regeneration, conservation and coastal planning, including processing planning applications, conducting site visits, and providing professional advice to a wide range of stakeholders. You will work closely with experienced colleagues, supporting pre-application consultations, drafting reports, and contributing to appeals and hearings.

We are looking for someone with a relevant planning qualification and eligibility for RTPI membership, who's ready to grow their skills in a dynamic and collaborative environment. With our Planner Progression Scheme, you'll be supported to develop professionally and progress your career within the team.

We need you to help shape our borough's future, balancing the new growth planned for the area, with the preservation of the borough's unique environment and heritage. If you would like to join our team, please apply now. In return we are committed to supporting and developing our staff and promote a good work life balance with hybrid working arrangements (including working from home up to 3 days per week and a flexible working scheme). We also offer a competitive salary, performance related pay, generous annual leave including office closure between Christmas and New Year, local government pension scheme, employee benefits scheme and RTPI subscription payment.

Closing date: 9 September 2025.
