Salary: £27,000 - £32,000

Location: Oxfordshire

Regions: Oxfordshire, South East

We are seeking a Graduate Engineer interested in working within Oxfordshire and the South East region with a highly regarded main contractor on multiple schemes throughout the area.

The role primarily involves managing capital Highways Maintenance Schemes, CDM Highway Defects, and Planning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and completing defects on the network, supporting operational aspects of the maintenance contract. An engineering degree would be advantageous as there will be an element of engineering works involved.

Responsibilities:

  1. Categorise defects across various schemes and determine the necessary works and materials.
  2. Collaborate with the planning team to ensure works are carried out efficiently and cost-effectively.
  3. Work alongside Works Managers and Foremen to monitor stock levels and place orders as needed, maintaining accurate records.
  4. Identify and allocate resources internally and externally to complete defect works in line with planning.
  5. Understand site-specific constraints and logistics affecting defect completion.
  6. Participate in developing programmes for defect works, discussing plans with clients, and executing them.
  7. Book all road space required for defect works using in-house systems.
  8. Attend monthly meetings with clients to discuss defect delivery.
  9. Coordinate with Local Authorities and Police to obtain necessary permits.
  10. Work with internal units and external TM teams to deliver work as required.
  11. Manage defect status and close defects in the internal works order management system.
  12. Assist the Senior Engineer and Scheduler on major scheme works.
  13. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and partners.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills.
  2. Ability to manage programmes and meet deadlines efficiently.
  3. Qualification in highway construction or civil engineering.
  4. Experience in defect rectification.
  5. Understanding of traffic management to Chapter 8 standards.
  6. Proficient in MS Office, including Excel, Word, and SharePoint.
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The role includes a company vehicle, and candidates must have a full clean driving licence and at least 2 years of highway maintenance experience.
