Google Cloud Engineer - London - £400 per day Umbrella - Contract
Posted 1 hour ago by Click
We are recruiting for a IT Specialist, Cloud and Automation Google Engineer on contract based in London to work for a leading Banking Group.
Seeking a Google Cloud engineer with strong Terraform, CI/CD and automated-testing skills to build the repeatable components of the solution. The candidate will implement version-controlled Apigee configuration and environment modules, pipeline and workload-placement controls, golden-path template changes, and automated validation for the Cloud Run integration and environment separation. Practical familiarity with Apigee X, Cloud Run, IAM and Google Cloud networking is needed so the automation reflects the approved architecture rather than simply deploying resources.
Job Description
What you'll be doing
- Design, build and operate secure, resilient and scalable API capabilities on Apigee X and Google Cloud.
- Develop and maintain API proxies, shared flows, policies, target Servers, KVMs, API products, developer applications and environment configurations.
- Design and implement API security patterns using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, mTLS, certificates, service accounts and appropriate secrets-management controls.
- Build reusable API onboarding and deployment patterns that improve developer self-service and reduce manual intervention.
- Automate Apigee X configuration and deployments using Terraform, GitHub, Harness, Backstage and supported Apigee APIs and tooling.
- Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines covering validation, testing, security checks, promotion, deployment and rollback.
- Support the migration of existing API proxies and consumers to Apigee X and the latest self-service onboarding patterns.
- Work with application, platform, architecture, security, network and SRE teams to resolve complex integration and connectivity issues.
- Troubleshoot API routing, DNS, TLS, authentication, policy, performance and private-connectivity issues across Apigee X and GCP.
- Implement appropriate logging, monitoring, tracing, alerting and service-level measures using tools such as Dynatrace and Google Cloud Operations.
- Conduct technical design reviews, code reviews, production-readiness reviews and post-implementation validation.
- Provide production support, incident response and root-cause analysis for the API platform and customer services.
- Ensure that solutions meet security, control, resilience and operational-readiness requirements.
- Produce clear technical documentation and complete effective knowledge transfer to permanent engineering teams.
- Promote API engineering standards, reusable patterns and sound software-engineering practices across the wider organisation.
Essential skills and experience
- Significant hands-on engineering experience delivering and operating Apigee X in production.
- Strong knowledge of Apigee X proxies, shared flows, policies, API products, applications, KVMs, target Servers, environments and deployment models.
- Hands-on experience designing and securing REST APIs using OpenAPI, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, mTLS and certificate-management patterns.
- Experience with commonly used Apigee policies, including OAuthV2, VerifyAPIKey, AssignMessage, RaiseFault, ServiceCallout, SpikeArrest, Quota and threat protection.
- Strong knowledge of API life cycle management, versioning, reusable policy patterns and production-readiness controls.
- Experience automating Apigee X and GCP configuration using Terraform and APIs.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, Harness, Jenkins, Cloud Build or equivalent enterprise tooling.
- Strong understanding of GCP networking, DNS, IAM, service accounts, TLS, private connectivity, load balancing and troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting production services, including monitoring, incident response, root-cause analysis, rollback and post-change validation.
- Strong Linux skills and practical Scripting or development experience using Python, Bash, JavaScript, Node.js or a comparable language.
- Ability to take end-to-end ownership of technical outcomes and work effectively across engineering, security, architecture and service-management teams.
Desirable skills
- Experience migrating APIs from Apigee Edge, APIC, MuleSoft or another Legacy gateway to Apigee X.
- Experience with Istio or Anthos Service Mesh, including ServiceEntry, VirtualService, DestinationRule and mTLS patterns.
- Experience integrating Apigee X with GKE, Cloud Run and private GCP workloads.
- Experience with Backstage-based self-service onboarding and golden paths.
- Experience with Dynatrace, Google Cloud Operations, Service Now.
- Google Cloud or Apigee certifications.
- Experience working in a highly regulated financial-services environment.
- Experience using tools, language and technologies like Harness, backstage, Github Copilot, Github, Python.
