German-speaking (Senior) Underwriter Financial Lines

ANV is seeking an experienced German-speaking Underwriter to join its Financial Lines team in Barcelona.

From our offices in Barcelona, we provide underwriting and claims handling expertise for some of the strongest and highest rated financial partners in the market offering local level service in the local language where possible.

The role

Work alongside a team of underwriters dedicated to European Business. Source, underwrite and service a profitable book of Financial Lines (D&O, Crime, FI and other Financial Lines) business.

• Sourcing, developing and underwriting Financial Lines products, like D&O, Crime, FIPI, and EPL in Germany and other European countries (80% German speaking market, 20% international English speaking market)
• Focus on development and growth of German speaking portfolio
• Contribution to the Financial Lines Team's overall premium budget with the ultimate goal of ensuring bottom line profitability.
• Developing and maintaining strong market relationships with brokers, clients and carrier partners, as well as promoting the growth and profile of ANV and the AmTrust Group.
• Assisting in the development of Financial Lines Insurance products through ongoing product development and innovation.
• Providing a proactive presence with high service standards in the Target Markets.
• Underwriting business in accordance with ANV's Underwriting Guidelines and within the boundaries of your underwriting authority, delivering timely quotes and policies to meet broker and client needs with the objective of minimising execution risk to brokers and clients.
• Keeping up to date with FL activity in the Target Markets through the financial press and with developments in the FL Insurance market in the Target Markets.
• Provide technical support and training to junior and less experienced underwriters.

In order to excel in this role, the following should describe you!

• Educated to degree level in Law, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or similar (desirable)
• Minimum 5 yrs of underwriting experience in the Financial Lines market
• Significant experience in broking and business development in the Financial Lines market could also be considered
• Fluent German and English (plus any other European languages)
• Willingness to travel and help to develop regional business and other target markets
• In-depth understanding of and expertise in Financial Lines products
• Experience and expertise in the Financial Institutions segments
• Ability to analyse complex risks from both a legal and commercial perspective
• Ability to devise bespoke insurance solutions to meet clients' needs
• Robust negotiation skills to utilise in interactions with brokers, advisors and clients
• Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to make commercial decisions in the context of risk assessment
• Proficiency in drafting clear and effective commercial documents, including policy wordings
• Strong track record of profitable underwriting performance
• A network of established relationships with FL professionals, brokers or other distribution channels
