Locum GP - Urgent Care Centre

Location: York, North Yorkshire Rate: £80 per hour (weekdays) £90 per hour (weekends & bank holidays) Service: 7 days per week, including evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays (flexible shifts available) Contract Type: Locum (ongoing / ad-hoc / block bookings) Start Date: Immediate / ASAP - flexible for the right candidate

About the Role

We are seeking experienced, enthusiastic Locum General Practitioners to join our busy Urgent Care Centre in York. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic, supportive environment providing high-quality urgent and unscheduled care to the local population.

The centre manages a wide range of minor illnesses, injuries, and urgent presentations (non-life-threatening), with access to point-of-care testing, imaging referrals, and multidisciplinary support (including nurse practitioners, paramedics, and admin teams).

Shifts are flexible to suit your availability - full days, evenings, nights, weekends, or bank holidays. Typical shift patterns include 8-12 hour blocks, with options for regular or occasional cover.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide autonomous clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting with undifferentiated urgent care needs.
  • Independently prescribe medications and arrange investigations / referrals as required.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, efficient, patient centred care.
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records in line with GMC and local governance standards.
Requirements
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • Inclusion on the GMC GP Register (or equivalent CCT / Certificate of Eligibility for GP Registration).
  • MRCGP (or equivalent) desirable.
  • Valid DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
  • Up-to-date mandatory training (ALS/ILS desirable but not essential).
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience in urgent care, out-of-hours, A&E, or primary care preferred.
