Job Description
General Manager / Hostel Manager
Situated in one of the most spectacular parts of the North Coast 500, Inchnadamph
Explorer's Lodge is basecamp for individuals, groups and families drawn to this spectacular location in the Scottish Northern Highlands.
A base for exploring the unique Northern Highlands since 1995, we are now looking to find an exceptional leader to join us on the next chapter of our journey.
The Role
Our General Manager will play a vital role in leading the team and ensuring excellent guest experiences across our 200 year old Manse House, steadings, shepherds hut, walled cottage and shop. You'll have a keen eye for detail, can deliver excellent guest experience, have a willingness to exceed our guests' expectations and will be a real ambassador for Inchnadamph Explorer's Lodge.
This is a hands-on operational role where you'll lead a small team across a diverse range of "explorers" who are our guests at the lodge. These include walkers, mountaineers, cyclists, NC500 road trippers, geologists, and university and school groups. You'll ensure that each guest receives authentic hospitality that matches the spectacular surroundings.
Key Responsibilities
Leading day-to-day operations of the lodge
Managing and developing a small team of 4, fostering a positive and productive work environment
Overseeing housekeeping, reception, and all lodge operations
Managing bookings, guest enquiries, and group coordination
Ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and maintenance throughout the property
Developing our food service operations and innovating our food offer to our guests and customers
Managing budgets, monitoring performance and pace, and reporting to ownership
Building relationships with local businesses, tour operators, and community organisations
Identifying and maximising on opportunities such as winter occupancy, food offer and retail shop
Handling guest feedback and continuously improving service standards
About You
You are a hardworking, forward-thinking individual who can work under your own initiative and be a key player in our business. You'll need to have:
Proven experience in hospitality management, ideally in boutique, outdoor, or adventure tourism settings
A combination of operational expertise across housekeeping, front of house, and general management
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop a small team
Extraordinary high standards and a genuine passion for delivering authentic hospitality
Tech savvy - our guest and employee experience is supported by our tech-stack including Mews, Lightspeed, Rota-1 and HubSpot
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and controlling costs
A shared interest in outdoor pursuits and an understanding of our guests' motivations
The ability to work flexibly, including weekends and bank holidays as required
What We Offer
This is a permanent role with shifts working Saturdays and/or Sundays and bank holidays as required. This is a role where no two weeks are the same, ensuring variety and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the business. Living and working in this remote part of the Scottish Highlands means you will have many incredible sights including Suilven, Loch Assynt, the Wailing Widow Falls and Achmelvich Beach right on your doorstep to enjoy on your days off. This is a unique opportunity to combine a fulfilling career with life in one of Scotland's most breathtaking locations.
Is This Role Right for You?
Please consider the above criteria carefully before starting your application. When recruiting, it's important to us that we are the right choice for you, as well as you being the right choice for us. We believe it is the people we employ that make the difference to the experience of our guests.
This role would suit someone with a shared interest in our guests combined with experience and flair for offering authentic hospitality. If you're passionate about the outdoors, thrive in remote locations, and want to make a real impact in a growing hospitality business, we'd love to hear from you.
