General Internal Medicine Consultant

Are you aan established Acute Medical Consultant looking for new challenge or a trained SPR looking for your first locum consultant post?

With a passion for patient care and safety, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding and awareness of clinical governance, with a desire to continually improve the patient experience.

As part of the agreed job plan, you will be working with a team which would be a total of 8 consultants after this appointment. On site consultant cover is from 8 am 5 pm weekdays and 8 am 2 pm weekends. The Acute Medical Consultant also contributes to General Medicine on call rota of approximately 1 in 40 over weekdays and weekends.

You will have full GMC registration or evidence of eligibility for full GMC registration, with appropriate/fellowship training in Emergency Medicine.

Main duties of the job

As part of the agreed job plan, you will be working with a team which would be a total of 9/10 consultants after this appointment.

On site consultant cover is from 8 am 5 pm weekdays and 8 am 2 pm weekends (as per rota). The acute medical consultant also contributes to General Medicine on call rota of approximately 1 in 30 over weekdays and weekends.

Job responsibilities

Weekly Timetable:

The changing nature of the contracting process makes it essential that all consultants have a flexible approach to working arrangements which may include innovative working patterns, including 7 day working in the future. The job plan will be reviewed at a 3, 6 and 12 monthly interval following initial appointment.

The job plan (for a full time) will consist of the following (provisional timetable below):

Direct Clinical Care: 7.5 PAs on average per week (Includes clinical activity, clinical related administrative activity, predictable and unpredictable work)

Supporting Professional Activities: 1.5 PAs on average per week (Includes CPD, audit, teaching and research)

Participation in the medical on call rotas equates to approximately 1PA.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at time of interview
  • Additional related qualifications e.g. BSc, BA
Experience
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty
  • Under and post graduate teaching experience
