National Grid is hiring a General Counsel Operations Manager. This position can be based at either The Strand, London or Warwick, UK.

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) is on the lookout for a dynamic General Counsel Operations Manager to join our team. As a key player in a company that delivers electricity to over 8 million customers across the Midlands, South Wales, and the South West of the UK, you will be at the forefront of supporting the energy transition as we strive to achieve net zero by 2050.
In this pivotal role, you will lead the charge in developing and delivering innovative operational solutions that align with our mission to provide clean, affordable, and fair energy. You will work closely with the Director of Operations and the NGED General Counsel, collaborating with senior leaders to ensure our legal, risk, and compliance functions are primed to support our ambitious goals.
You will be instrumental in aligning legal operations with the broader business strategy, optimising processes, implementing innovative technologies, and working with lawyers to build solutions that enhance business self-sufficiency and reduce external legal spend.
What You'll DoStrategic Planning & Technology Integration:
- Craft and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency of our legal operations.
- Drive the integration of cutting-edge legal technologies, including AI, to revolutionise our processes and support our business objectives.
- Transform and lead a high-performing legal operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusivity.
- Mentor and develop team members, empowering them to reach their full potential.
- Oversee the legal department's budget, implementing cost-saving measures and ensuring compliance.
- Collaborate with lawyers to create solutions that enhance self-sufficiency and reduce external legal spend.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Change Management
- Build strong relationships with the business, lawyers, IT, and Digital teams to drive change and align legal operations with business objectives.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to drive business success.
- Oversee and manage legal projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Analyse legal data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, preparing reports for senior management
- Extensive experience in legal operations or project management, preferably in-house or at a law firm.
- Proven ability to manage projects independently and move them forward effectively.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail, capable of identifying risks and implementing controls.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- A passion for innovation and technology solutions, particularly in the realm of legal operations and AI.
- Experience in financial forecasting, budget management, and risk management IT systems.

- Competitive Salary: circa £82,000 - £97,000 per annum (dependent on location, capability, and experience).
- Bonus: Up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance.

This role is offered on a Full-Time, Permanent basis.
We are also offering hybrid /flexible working where travel to the office will be as per business need. Base location for this role will be The Strand, London or Warwick, UK.
