Gender & Equality Lead

The Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) are looking for a Gender and Equality Lead to join our Programmes team. The role will be reporting to the Head of Programmes.
Location: E2, near Bethnal Green (London). Hybrid, minimum 3 days in the office.
Salary: £45,000 to £50,000 per annum, depending on experience + company benefits. Permanent contract.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full-time), Monday to Friday.
The role
The Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) is a membership-based organisation working to improve the lives of tea workers, farmers, and their communities. ETP's mission includes addressing key sustainability challenges such as Gender and Equality (equality), economic empowerment and environmental sustainability. The Gender and Equality Lead plays an important role in the design phases of ETP's programmes to ensure they are inclusive, gender sensitive and transformative, addressing the diverse needs of tea-growing communities and associated businesses.
The Gender and Equality Lead will be accountable for providing technical expertise on gender and equality issues across all of ETP's work. The Gender and Equality lead provides support in implementing ETP's strategic initiatives to achieve long-term objectives on gender and equity across all ETP activities, including advice on project design and implementation, support on business pilots, and input to policy development.
Reporting to the Head of Programmes, the Lead will use their in-depth contextual knowledge, technical and practical expertise to deliver ETP's ambition for a gender equitable and inclusive tea sector.
Responsibilities
Programming
- Regularly update the existing comprehensive assessment to understand the needs and challenges related to Gender and Equality, both in programme countries and with ETP's members, to scope project ideas.
- Lead on Gender and Equality technical support for proposals to foundations, institutional and other donors. Providing considerable inputs in designing concept notes and project documents for Gender and Equality mainstreaming.
- Introduce and incorporate the latest best-practice tools and methodologies to ensure a gender equality and inclusion lens in all programmes, in line with the needs, priorities, and challenges in the operational environment. Ensuring that projects are aligned with technical standards and collaborate with local partners and other key stakeholders (internal and external), to ensure inclusive practices are integrated into all projects.
- Capacity building: provide training and support to ETP staff, local partners and community members on gender equality and inclusion; establish and coordinate an internal working group as a platform for sharing and learning; develop resources and tools to facilitate the mainstreaming of Gender and Equality across ETP's initiatives.
Private sector innovation and pilots
- Work with the Business Innovation Lead and other stakeholders within ETP to help identify innovations for business, specifically seeking approaches which:
- Support gender-responsive human rights due diligence and gender equitable practices (e.g., through support and representation with members on addressing GBVH, enabling access to social security, reducing and redistributing unpaid care and domestic work).

Policy and Communications
- Working with the Policy Officer and Communications team, provide input into ETP's evidence-based policy positions and factsheets on gender and equality related issues in tea
- Develop case studies and other materials to communicate ETP's Gender and Equality work. Includes capturing impact and change stories, in collaboration with Country teams and the communications team.
- Track developments in state, national and global policy related to gender and equality. Share with ETP team and suggest highlights for broader communications.
Shared Learning
- Work with the M&E team to establish systems, processes and tools for monitoring and evaluating impact in gender and equality, including mainstreaming gender and equality into ETP's cross-portfolio Global Monitoring Framework and individual programme monitoring frameworks.
- Work with the M&E Lead and Country teams to ensure that learning on gender and equality is systematically documented and shared with relevant stakeholders inside and outside of ETP.
- Analyse programme outcomes and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Annually contribute to ETP country plans, ensuring that Gender and Equality improvements are embedded in ETP's work.
- Contribute to the setting of ETP's institutional KPIs for equality and support the organisation to deliver those KPIs.
Required skills
- Have the right to work in the UK and reside within a commutable distance to our London office in Bethnal Green.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Gender and Equality programming and/or policy in an international development context, preferably with experience in the agricultural sector
- Technical knowledge on gender equality in global supply chains.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience required, postgraduate degree desirable, particularly in a relevant field such as International Development, Value Chain Development & Market Systems, Agriculture, Responsible Business Practices or other relevant fields
- Experience in developing funding proposals, concept notes and donor reporting.
- Practical experience of working closely with M&E technical specialists on results framework development, monitoring and impact measurement for gender work.
- Experience collaborating with diverse, globally dispersed teams.
- Evidenced ability to communicate complex information on gender to non-specialist audiences and persuade audiences on the importance of gender and equality work in the sector.

- Experience in capacity building and training on Gender and Equality topics
