Do you have training in assistive technology and an excellent working knowledge of the issues relating to disability support within Higher Education? If so, this is a great opportunity for you.
As Information Accessibility Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for supporting staff across the University to ensure digital learning and teaching is fully accessible for disabled students and for monitoring compliance in this respect. You will support academic schools and departments to understand requirements, adapt learning materials and to anticipate the needs of students with print disabilities at the University of Kent, in line with the requirements of the Equality Act 2010.
With oversight by the Data Protection Manager, you will support the development of training for staff in relation to these requirements.
As Information Accessibility Compliance Officer, you can expect to be involved in:
- Supporting staff awareness and training regarding digital accessibility and assistive technology at the University of Kent, including providing advice on alternative formats for students with print disabilities.
- Monitoring and conducting spot checks on digital learning and teaching materials at the University.
- Supporting University teams to undertake alternative formats and promote student self-sufficiency in accessing assistive technology and digital learning resources.
- Providing a professional response to problems encountered by students and staff where these relate to alternative formats provision and the use of assistive technologies.
What will you bring to the role?
- Degree in a related subject and/or significant experience in a similar or related role.
- Training in the area of assistive technology.
- Knowledge of the issues, relating to disability support within Higher Education.
- Understanding of key barriers to information access to people with print disabilities within Higher Education.
- Excellent IT skills including Word, email, spreadsheets, databases and knowledge of major operating systems.
