Job Description

MetFilm School is one of the largest film schools in Europe, running undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across our London, Leeds and Berlin campuses as well as a portfolio of non-accredited courses. Freelance Cinematography Lecturer in Higher Education: BA (Hons) Filmmaking and MA Screen & Film Production.

About the role

We are seeking experienced lecturers and industry experts to join a great team of film professionals in a vibrant and supportive working environment on a freelance basis at our Manchester Campus at MetFilm School. Opportunities are available for regular teaching starting September 2026, as well as covering teaching/deputising and guest lecturing on an ad hoc basis. BIMM provides internal training and professional development for all lecturers, especially those new to teaching.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality education to our students, ensuring they acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in the industry.

What You'll Do:
  • Design, deliver and lead engaging and comprehensive lessons in cinematography.
  • Contribute towards assessment and the marking of student work, providing constructive feedback.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and integrate these into the curriculum.
  • Mentor and support students, fostering their professional growth.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance the course content.
What You'll Bring:
  • A graduate or postgraduate qualification in a film related subject is advantageous but not essential.
  • A graduate or postgraduate qualification in education is advantageous but not essential.
  • Teaching experience at the higher education level is preferred but not essential.
  • Significant industry experience as a cinematographer.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.

There are opportunities for regular teaching from September 2026 as well as cover teaching/deputising and guest lecturing on an ad hoc basis. BIMM provides internal training and professional development for all lecturers, especially those new to teaching. If you already have a graduate or postgraduate qualification then this will be advantageous, but it's not a barrier.
