Fraud Manager

Role Purpose
As a Fraud Manager you will deliver robust fraud mitigation strategies while maintaining an excellent customer experience and supporting business growth. In this role, you'll ensure that future fraud threats and the latest approaches to fraud detection, prevention, and investigation are thoroughly considered, helping shape the company's current and future fraud strategy in alignment with the regulatory landscape. Acting as the main liaison for fraud-related topics, you'll collaborate closely with stakeholders such as Risk, Collection, CRM, Operations, Compliance, and business partners. Your work will involve evaluating the fraud threat landscape across various products and supporting the design and development of innovative yet practical fraud controls by translating regulatory requirements and industry best practices into actionable fraud control recommendations. You'll proactively identify future fraud risks, review existing fraud processes, systems, and controls to detect gaps, and propose solutions to decrease the economic losses associated with fraudulent activities within the retail loan portfolio.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead Compliance and Reporting: Directly oversee compliance and reporting obligations for fraud activities in the Spanish and European markets, including mandatory reporting to the anti-fraud office of Catalonia and SEPBLAC for AML requirements.
- Fraud Risk Management: Develop strategies to identify, mitigate, and manage fraud risks, ensuring alignment with current and future legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Analysis of Fraud Typologies: Monitor and analyze key fraud typologies and control structures to reduce losses in financial institutions.
- Proactive Fraud Prevention: Stay proactive by identifying new fraud risks and establishing robust controls to ensure continuous prevention and compliance.
- Stakeholder Interaction: Maintain regular interaction with banks and customers to validate information and resolve issues within the scope of existing service level agreements.
- Data Analysis and Technological Integration: Leverage data analysis and Python/ML technologies to detect anomalies and trends for effective fraud and chargeback prevention.
- System Improvements and Tool Recommendations: Recommend system improvements and new tools for enhanced fraud detection and prevention.
Knowledge and Skills
- Deep Regulatory Knowledge: Proficient understanding of fraud regulation in the Spanish market, with substantial experience leading fraud departments within a regulated framework. Knowledge of compliance obligations with agencies like the anti-fraud office of Catalonia and SEPBLAC.
- Analytical and Data Skills: High proficiency in SQL and data analysis to detect patterns indicative of fraud. Familiarity with Python and machine learning techniques to enhance fraud detection and prevention capabilities.
- Fraud Typology Expertise: In-depth knowledge of key fraud typologies affecting financial institutions and the control structures necessary to mitigate these threats.
- Strategic Fraud Risk Management: Ability to develop and continuously improve all aspects of fraud risk management, from prevention and detection to mitigating controls and strategies. Experience in setting up robust controls to manage and prevent fraud effectively.
- Adaptability to Regulatory Changes: Skilled at leveraging regulatory changes and internal policy shifts to identify new fraud risk territories and ensure continuous prevention and compliance.
- Leadership and Communication: Strong leadership and analytical skills combined with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent report writing and presentation skills, with the capacity to influence people at all levels of the organization.
- Proactivity in Monitoring: Proven ability to monitor fraud and chargeback levels actively, providing proactive notifications to maintain and enhance organizational response.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valued experience on cyber / white collar crime, financial institution fraud, and major corporate fraud is preferred, and/or comparable corporate fraud experience in the financial industry.
- Experience of working with external antifraud services.
- Decision making based on statistics.
- Experience of building processes from scratch is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in fraud investigation or similar field.
- Higher education in mathematics/statistics/IT/economics.
- Fluency in Spanish (ideally native) & English at least upper-intermediate.
