Fractional Financial Controller

We are working with a privately owned group of companies in East Lancashire who are seeking some part-time / fractional support from an experienced finance professional for a period of 12-18 months, possibly longer. The role is open for an immediate start so would suit someone at Financial Controller level looking for circa 25-30 hours a week with a high degree of flexibility. The successful candidate will be used to an SME environment and capable of performing a hands-on finance role with minimal supervision. The scenario is as follows:

You will be responsible for managing the finances for an established IT services / telecoms business for circa 2-3 days per week. You'll be responsible for everything from month-end and VAT through to management accounts, cashflow and financial reporting, working closely with the business owners and their external accountants. You'll have transactional support for some of the day-to-day processing, so we're looking for someone who can take ownership of the accounts, make sure everything is accurate and up to date, and provide useful financial information rather than simply processing transactions. There will also be opportunities to improve existing finance processes, reporting and controls.

For approximately one day a week you will be providing high level financial support to a residential property business. This will involve taking ownership of the quality and timeliness of their monthly financial information, ensuring the underlying accounts are accurate, reconciled and up to date. From there, you'll work towards significantly improving their management information, profitability reporting, forecasting and wider commercial financial analysis. They need someone who can bring the accounts, balance sheet and management information fully up to date and establish a robust monthly reporting process.

As the role develops, the focus will increasingly move towards financial analysis, forecasting, profitability reporting and project work, which will include examining strategic options for the future.

To be considered for the role you must have good experience at Financial Controller / Finance Manager level, good knowledge of SAGE, Excel and modernising manual processes. They are happy to consider different working patterns and would welcome applications from established fractional finance professionals with experience of working with other SME clients or immediately available candidates looking for part-time / contract work.

Ideally they would like someone to start in December so short notice period or immediate availability is preferred.
