Fractional Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Location: Remote / Hybrid (occasional travel)

Type: Part-Time / Contract (Fractional); 2 Days per week with scale up

Industry: Renewable Energy

Reports to: Executive Leadership

Job Description

The Fractional CTO will act as a strategic technology advisor, helping define and execute a future-proof data reporting and integration strategy to ensure systems remain scalable and ready for growth. This role bridges executive leadership, operational teams, and technology partners, guiding the optimal approach to meet business requirements while overseeing implementation and mentoring internal teams.

Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and oversee the execution of the company's long-term technology roadmap.


  • Evaluate, select, and implement core technologies and oversee technical service providers.


  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to external development teams.


  • Establish best practices for software and hardware integration.


  • Align technology with business goals, collaborating across product, operations, and commercial teams.


  • Advise on tech due diligence for partnerships, vendors, and acquisitions.


  • Ensure scalability, security, and reliability of technology platforms.


  • Stay ahead of industry trends in the renewable energy sector.


  • Represent the company in technical discussions with investors, partners, and stakeholders.

The Successful Applicant



  • Proven experience as a CTO, VP of Engineering, or similar executive-level role.


  • 10+ years of technology leadership, ideally within energy or related industries.


  • Strong technical expertise in software architecture, cybersecurity, embedded systems, data science, or cloud platforms.


  • Experience with product development cycles, from MVP to scaling.


  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing technology teams.


  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.


What's on Offer



  • Approx. 1-2 days per week initially, scaling to 3-4 days during peak project phases.
